I got this pattern from The Missouri Star Quilt Company's magazine called the BLOCK.
So many great quilts in this issue and I love it because it is filled with quilts and patterns and how to make them.....and NO advertisers. LOVE it....
this one is called Bordered Periwinkle.
The border called for a 5 inch border using one of the prints in the quilt but since I did not have enough of any one of the prints I used, I pulled out all the scraps and came up with this border.

simple sun dresses
I am going to attempt a tutorial for a simple sun dress. I am working on making these for our church mission to Jamaica next spring.
for a size small (2-4)
I cut a section of fabric about 27 inches long
fold right sides together and sew the selvages together press seam open
then refold and put the seam in the center
at one end ( the top ) fold in- press - and sew about an inch wide casing
and at the other end ( the hem) fold in - press - and sew about a 2 inch hem
place seam in center then fold in half and
cut arm hole into both layers at the same time
insert about a 7 inch piece of 3/8th inch elastic and secure with safety pins
make bias tape for arm holes ( I use a jelly roll strip or you can cut a 2 1/4 inch WOF strip)
tie bows on each shoulder and you are finished! Such a sweet simple dress.

Paper piecing attempt!
I found this picture and pattern while floating around online.
I'm not a big fan of paper piecing but I wanted to give it a try.
It took me over 5 hours to make this one block. It is about 14 inches square.
I think I will make a pillow with it. Way too involved for me to attempt to make enough of these to make a quilt. I love the pattern though... so pretty!!

Barn Quilts
I have a sweet friend that lives in northern Mississippi. She is an amazing quilter and she also makes barn quilts. They featured her on the local news there this week. Here is the video!
I just had to share this with the blog world!

Reusable duster
I ran out of dusters so I decided to make my own.
I started with 4 pieces of fleece (4 1/2 inches by 7 inches)
I think the pictures tell what I did

Table Runner
I have never made a table runner. I see them on all the blogs and have been wanting to make one. A couple of weeks ago a friend came over to sew with me and she had these aqua colored scraps. Just enough to do two Dresden plate panels. I thought it would make a nice table runner.
I had to go to Hancock to pick up 3 extra matching fat quarters.
I put it together and decided it would be a good project to practice doing feathers.
This is what I ended up with.
This is the front.....
This is how the back looks...

While watching Downton .........
On Thursday I watched the first 3 episodes of Season 5 of Downton Abby in my sewing room. As I watched I created this little ( size 2) outfit for a friend's grand daughter. I love sewing for children.
The shorts are reversible.

Is orange the new Black?
I finally finished putting together this quilt. I have been collecting small tumblers ( cut out with my GO machine!) from scraps. This one has 12 rows with 28 in each row. The quilt is around 65 inches square.
My DH suggested the orange border and I think I like it.

My new Juki
I got my new machine a couple of weeks ago. Love love love it.
It only does one stitch....a straight stitch. It is wonderful for piecing quilt blocks
but it's main job is to quilt my quilt tops!
